人の美貌に関することわざがたくさんあります

There are a lot of proverbs about the good looks of the person.

Beauty is but a skin deep.

１９世紀初めのイギリスの政治家　コペット・ウィリアムの言葉といわれています。



They  are said to be words of British politician C. William of the early 19th century.

ことわざの意味は

「見た目の美しさは、表面の皮一枚に過ぎない。

その下の中身を見抜くことが大切である」

「外見がいくら美しくてもそれはあくまで外見だけの話であり、

人間性そのものを判断する基準にはならない」

これ自体は真実であり、善でも悪でもないように思われます。

The meaning of the proverb

一方、別ののことわざに次のようなものがあります。

明治時代の女流作家
 田沢稲舟（たざわ　いなぶね）の和歌に

「あさましや

骨を包める皮一重

迷う身こそはおろかなりけれ」

があります。

And,
In a Japanese poem of woman writer Inabune Tazawa
of the Meiji era
"It is a mean thing
To one fold of skin wrapping the rib in
The position to be captivated by is stupid"


これは、骨や肉を包んでいる皮膚一枚に

人間、特に男性が悩まされ続けているという

真実を突いています.

しかし、
悩ましい問題です。

It is said that
To one piece of skin that this wraps a bone and meat
A human being particularly a man continues being troubled.

I think
It's the truth.

However,
It is a  problem.
